A rare glimpse of Small Indian Civet

Small Indian Civet cat showed up yesterday night behind the kitchen at Tree House Hideaway, Bandhavgarh. After the guests had dined, it was time to head to the kitchen for Kshitij for the supper. As he entered the backyard of the kitchen, he saw this creature of night take a swift run into the dark. He then tossed a powerful light stream into the bushes and took a lovely photograph of the cat posing at the camera.

Kshitij explained, “This was the first time in two years that the Small Indian Civet was seen in the property; however the Common Palm Civet cats were quite often seen in the property as well as inside the jungle. These cats are active during night searching for food. They don’t like much climbing on the trees; they are terrestrial. They habituate in thick grass, scrubs, bushes, and dark burrows in the rocks. They eat animals like lizards, rodents, insects and also fruits. Although their status is ‘least concerned’ and their population is sufficient enough, they are one of the animals very rarely seen.”

He decided to set up the Night Trap Camera for the night. And yes, the camera caught the cat’s move at 01.05 AM in the morning! Do check out!
