Earth Hour In Bandhavgarh | Tree Houses In Bandhavgarh

“Sooner or later, we will have to recognize that the Earth has rights too, to live without pollution. What mankind must know is that human beings cannot live without Mother Earth, but the planet can live without humans” – Evo Morales

On 25th March, we the team at Treehouse hideaway lodge – Pugdundee safaris, Bandhavgarh conducted a small session for our guests and their children on environmental conservation and its importance to save our planet earth. There were special activities, games and storytelling narratives about small – small initiatives taken at homes by our guests. We, even organized ‘Karma dance show’ for them – a tribal dance style performed by the local Baiga tribe (mostly in their community) during the first harvest of the season, new born child, and on several other occasions like Deepawali, Holi, and Dusshehra.

The guests were communicated about this initiative in advance and they were happy to be a part of it. From 8.30- 9.30 pm, the lights were switched off in the lodge.

There was a special activity for children where the team held a small session explaining to them about conserving the earth and what could they do to make a difference in their day-to-day lives through games and stories.

The evening ended with heartfelt messages written by children for the lodge board and cake cutting. We, then briefed them about today’s significance known as Earth hour, worldwide.

What is Earth Hour?

Earth hour is a movement, an annual event, and an initiative taken across the globe by individuals, participants, residents, businesses and communities to turn off non-essential electric lights for ONE HOUR from 8.30 to 9.30 PM. Mostly, it’s held during the last Saturday during the month of March every year. It initially started as a Lights off event at Sydney, Australia 2007.

Later it became a global event, which focuses on engaging people on the issues of climate change and taking actions for conserving the planet.

We received, heartfelt messages from the kids as we handed all our guests candles and waited for time being 8.30 PM. Our team, switched off all the lights for one hour. And, the guests enjoyed the chocolate cake prepared for the occasion, their candlelight dinner, watching the stars above.

Tree House Hideaway – On and among the trees in our five tree houses there is a route to hide away of fantasies. In the 21 acres area of land lies an option of experiencing the snug life inside a tree house or venturing out into the tiger-infested wild. The property has its resident species of birds, reptiles and animals residing around the forest trees. The hideaways – Mahua, Tendu, Peepal, Banyan and Palash are named after the trees on which they are built & you can choose to spend your time hiding in the intimacy of your rooms built on top of trees.

In the wild world of Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve, the outlook of tree houses is grunge and sturdy looking but the door opens to acceptable elegance complementing the outside world. The designs are a fusion of contemporary and traditional jungle living with earthy and eco essentials. These Tree houses have been made by local carpenters using regularized wood. Local craft knowledge and traditional expertise have been put to use to ensure that the Tree Houses blend harmoniously with nature. The Lodge also has a Machaan overlooking a water hole frequented by wild animals, bar cum lounge, alfresco dining options and an organic garden.

Dining hall is built around a century old Mahua tree, in two levels; The ground level serves as a cozy dining hall and the upper floor as a bar cum lounge known as ‘The Watering Hole’. We serve Table d’hôte menu but are more than happy to take requests & craftily design meals by making use of the locally sourced ingredients.

Served on request, our very popular Baiga Thali, cooked over Chulhas by local village women is a celebration of the local cuisine.
