Sharbat or sherbet is a popular West and South Asian drink prepared from fruits or flower petals. It is sweet, diluted with water and served chilled to create a drink.

The Indian gooseberry, known locally as Amla, is a nutrient rich fruit. It has been a common ingredient in the ancient Indian medicinal practice of Ayurveda. It’s a potent source of Vitamin C and also contains iron and calcium. It also offers a number of beauty benefits for your hair and skin. Amla or Amalaki can be consumed in any form be it juiced, powdered or eaten raw and because it is so versatile, it has become a favourite among the health conscious masses.

How to Make Amla Sherbet. Find the complete instructions.

Serves: 4-6
Preparation Time: 30 minutes

Ingredients:

  • Amla fruit : 400 gms
  • Lemon juice : 4 tbsp
  • Black salt : 10 gms
  • Jal-jeera powder (optional) : 10 gms
  • Salt : 10 gms
  • Sugar: 100 gms

Method:

  • Wash Amla in clean water and then transfer in a sauce pan for further boiling.
  • Fill the sauce pan with ½ liter of water and boil the amla in medium heat for appx. 20 minutes.
  • Turn off heat once Amla become soft and tender. Then strain the water and let Amla cool down.
  • De-seed Amla fruits and blend it in a mixer to make a fine puree.
  • Add the rest of the ingredients in the puree and mix well.
  • The puree is ready and can be preserved in a refrigerator for 3-4 days in an airtight container.
  • To make the ‘sherbet’ add 1 tbsp per glass and mix well.
  • Do check the sugar and you can add more as per the taste.
